It was living during the Miocene through Pliocene (13.7 to 3.4 million years ago), existing for approximately 10.3 million years. It was a large, robust animal reaching 1.5 to 1.8 metres in height and weighing between 1 and 2.5 tonnes, depending on the species. They are known for their large, protruding lower canine teeth. | |
