Illustration and photo-reconstruction of the ancient hornless Aktautitan hippopotamus. Aktautitan is an extinct animal from the equine Brontotheriidae family, that lived in the middle Eocene. Its generic name is from the Aktau mountains in Kazakhstan, where its fossils were found. I reached a height 2.5 metres at the shoulders. Its short legs and location of fossils in lake sediments may be evidence of semi-aquatic way of life. | |
