Coated solar cell. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a photovoltaic (solar) cell coated with titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is a thermally stable white pigment with a high refractive index. It is being tested in an attempt to increase the efficiency of photovoltaic cells. Magnification: x11, 500 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
