Absorbent wound dressing. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Mepilex Border silicone-faced polyurethane foam dressing. This is the foam layer (top) and the silicon adhesive layer (bottom). When applied to an exuding wound, the foam layer absorbs excess fluid but maintains the wound surface in a moist condition, providing a micro-environment that is conducive to healing. The silicon adhesive gently bonds to the wound surface, allowing the dressing to be removed without ripping the healing skin. Mepilex Border is used on exuding wounds like leg ulcers, burns, and skin grafts. Mepilex Border is manufactured by Molnlycke Health Care. Magnification: x250 when printed 10cm wide.
