Dirty heart surgery tool. Dirt and blood on the metal ball and cable area of a tool used in heart surgery. If metal tools are not carefully cleaned and dried after use, then and dirt (such as blood) can accumulate. If the tool is to be reused in surgery, blood and other biological material needs to be removed, otherwise cross-contamination of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens can infect the patient.
