Absorbent wound dressing. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Allevyn polyurethane hydrophilic foam dressing. Allevyn consists of this soft, hydrophilic polyurethane foam and an hypo-allergenic acrylic adhesive layer (bottom) that breaks down in the presence of moisture, ensuring that the dressing does not stick to the wound surface. When applied to an exuding wound, the foam will absorb excess fluid but maintain the wound surface in a moist condition providing a micro-environment that is conducive to healing. Allevyn is used on exuding wounds like leg ulcers, minor burns, and skin graft sites. Allevyn is manufactured by Smith & Nephew Healthcare Limited. Magnification: x25 when printed 10cm wide. | |
