Silver-impregnated wound dressing. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a sample of Actisorb Silver wound dressing. This consists of an activated charcoal cloth impregnated with silver. The charcoal and silver is the black layer, and the nylon fabric is the white layers. The silver has an antimicrobial action that kills bacteria in the wound. This dressing is also designed to absorb toxins and to reduce the smell of a wound. Actisorb Silver is used on malodorous, infected wounds, including fungal lesions, faecal fistulae, infected pressure sores, and leg ulcers.
