Nanocellulose mat. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of nanocellulose (threads), or microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), formed into a filter mat. MFC is a material composed of nanosized cellulose fibrils with a high aspect ratio (length to width ratio). This sample is made of hardwood and softwood fibres (beech and spruce). Magnification: x830 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
