Leaf hairs. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of gland hairs (brown) on the leaf of a Pelargonium ignes ornamental plant. Small thorns (grey) are also seen. The gland hairs produce a highly aromatic oil which acts as a deterrent to predatory insects. Pelargoniums are popular ornamental plants due to their fragrant leaves and bright showy flowers.
