Interleukin 13 (IL-13) is a cytokine that plays a central regulator role in biochemical and physiological processes such as the synthesis of immunoglobulin E (IgE) and the hypersecretion of mucus. As a mediator of allergic inflammation it is implicated in the responses to several different diseases including asthma. The receptor is shown embedded in a cell membrane (blue and orange).
