Amathous. View of the ruins of the ancient city of Amathous, between Larnaca and Limassol, Cyprus. During the city's Hellenistic period, Amathous was one of the ancient royal cities of Cyprus, until about 300 BC. It then came under Roman control and was the capital of one of the four administrative regions of Roman Cyprus. A Roman temple to the goddess Aphrodite was built in the 1st century AD on top of the Hellenistic predecessor. | |
