Treatment of secondary bone cancer in the spine. Surgical views (right) and axial computed tomography (CT) scans (left) through a vertebra in the thoracic spine of a 59-year-old man with a secondary bone cancer. The scan has passed through the T10 vertebra (lower centre), and shows the insertion of a trocar (vertical line, also shown at upper right) being used to obtain a biopsy and to treat the cancer. This cancer has spread to the vertebral body from a primary prostate cancer. The trocar is also being used to place a probe that will be used to treat the cancer by radiofrequency thermoablation (shown at lower right).
