Dopaminergic neuron, computer illustration. Dopaminergic neurons are brain cells whose primary neurotransmitter is dopamine. Degeneration of these cells leads to the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. These symptoms include tremor, muscular rigidity, poor balance and depression. Glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor promotes the survival and differentiation of dopaminergic neurons and therefore may be useful as a treatment. | |
