Perforated eardrum, otoscope view. The tympanic membrane (eardrum) has perforated. This is a dry subtotal perforation (smaller than a total perforation). The perforation has revealed structures of the middle ear, including the round window niche just behind it. Also visible is the tip of the handle of the hammer (malleus), and above this the joint between the anvil (incus) and stirrup (stapes), the three bones of the inner ear. The middle ear mucosa is healthy. | |
