Dicranurus monstrosus is a genus of odontopleurid trilobites that lived during the Devonian period in a shallow sea that stretched over a large expanse of the present western world. Trilobites (meaning three-lobed organisms) were an important and widespread early form of marine life that survived practically throughout the whole Palaeozoic era, from about 450 to 250 million years ago. This specimen, found in rocks from southern Morocco, is the product of many hours of meticulous labor by a local fossil hunter. It measures 60 mm from head to tail. | |
