Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. This Doric temple was dedicated to the Ancient Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena. It was built in the hill-top citadel of the Acropolis in Athens from 447-438 BC. In turn a Christian church and a Turkish mosque, it was finally used as a gunpowder store before being reduced to ruins when the Venetians bombarded the Acropolis in 1687.
