Depending on their stereochemical configuration fluorescently labelled hexose derivatives can be selectively transported inside a cell through different types of hexose transporters (GLUTs). One of these transporters, GLUT5, is overexpressed in some breast cancer cells, and so could be useful for selective anti-cancer drug development. | |
