Polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs), illustration. This novel optoelectronic material consists of polymer dispersed liquid crystals (spheres) combined with a semiconducting absorber. When an electric current is applied the orientation of the crystals changes. When turned on (top) the spheres align, the material transmits light and is transparent. When turned off (bottom) the spheres align randomly, the material scatters light and is opaque. | |
