Aerial view of the bridges across the River Thames in central London. Photographed by Captain Alfred George Buckham (1879-1956) in 1923 and entitled 'The Heart of Empire'. He was one of the pioneers of aerial photography. View of the Thames looking downstream to the east. In the foreground is the Hungerford rail bridge from Charing Cross station on the north bank across to Waterloo Station on the south. Next is the old Waterloo Bridge, followed by the two Blackfriars bridges, rail and road, then Southwark road bridge. After the Cannon Street rail bridge comes London Bridge and lastly, Tower Bridge, both road bridges. | |
