Barringer Crater rock specimen. Fragment of rock containing iron oxide and meteorite fragments from Barringer Crater (Meteor Crater). A large iron meteorite impacted at this location in Arizona, USA, around 50, 000 years ago. The resulting crater measures over 165 metres deep, with a diameter of over 1.6 kilometres. The crater and surrounding area contains many fragments from the original meteorite, which had an estimated mass of 10, 000 tonnes. | |
