Ovarian tumour. Light micrograph (LM) of a section through an ovary showing a mucinous cystadenoma. This is a common benign (non-cancerous) ovarian tumour. This specimen shows numerous mucinous epithelial lined (pink and blue) papillary projections into the cystic (fluid-filled) spaces. Benign mucinous cystadenomas compose 80% of mucinous ovarian tumors and 20-25% of benign ovarian tumors overall. This type of tumour is most common between the ages of 40 and 50. The tumours are asymptomatic and often require no treatment. Magnification: x100 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue | |
