Symbol representing the Punic goddess Tanit. This symbol is on the floor of a ruined house in Kerkouane, Tunisia. Tanit was the chief goddess of Carthage, being worshipped since the time of the Phoenician ancestors of the Carthaginians. Kerkouane was abandoned after the First Punic War (264 to 241 BC), fought between Carthage and Rome. Photographed in 2007. | |
