The African skimmer (Rynchops flavirostris), classified as a near-threatened species of bird by the IUCN, is found along rivers, lakes and lagoons in Sub-Saharan Africa. The skimmer is very localised, being found in the Okavango Delta and along the Chobe river on large river systems and lakes. It is a colonial breeder which usually resides in rivers with unvegetated sandbars and islands. Photographed on the Chobe river between Namibia and Botswana. | |
