In the formula from 2007 the active ingredients were sodium nitrate and sodium hydroxide. The old style labels warn that the crystals were corrosive, oxidising, harmful and highly flammable. The current (2017) formula is only sodium hydroxide and the revised UN Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) label indicates that this chemical is corrosive to eyes and skin (GHS05). This domestic chemical is used to clear blocked sinks of fat and food deposits that build up in the U bend. It should be as safe as possible in use as well as affective - often a compromise. | |
