Isabella Gordon (1901-1988), Scottish marine biologist. Gordon received her PhD from Imperial College, London, UK, in 1926. Between 1926 and 1928 she undertook research at Yale University, Connecticut, USA. She returned to the UK in 1928 to take up the position of Assistant Keeper, Crustacea Section at the Natural History Museum, then the British Museum (Natural History). She was the first woman to be appointed as a full-time permanent member of the museum's staff. Gordon spent the remainder of her career at the museum, writing extensively on crustaceans and identifying specimens from all over the world. | |
