Ida Mellen (1877-1970), American aquarist. Mellen became secretary of the New York Aquarium in 1916, despite having only a limited formal scientific education. Her role included feeding and caring for the animals and evolved to include scientific research. She left the aquarium in 1929 and became an author of popular science books on home aquariums and domestic cats. | |
