Estrella Eleanor Carothers (1882-1957), American zoologist and geneticist, with a specimen case. Carothers is best known for her work on grasshoppers (order Orthoptera) and independent assortment. Independent assortment is the segregation and assortment of chromosomes during the first division of meiosis. Carothers discovered the first clear physical evidence for this while studying spermatogenesis in Brachystola sp. grasshoppers. | |
