Edith Kroupa (1910-1991), Austrian chemist. Photographed in 1934. Along with colleague Friedrich Hecht at the University of Vienna, Koupa discovered triple-weight hydrogen. She also used microchemical analysis to date radioactive rock from Winnipeg, Canada, finding it to be over 1, 725 millions years old. In the 1950s Koupa emigrated to the USA where she worked as a chemist for Monsanto in Dayton, Ohio, focussing on phosphates. | |
