SESAME building. This building houses the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) project. Construction of the independent laboratory began in 2002 and it was inaugurated in May 2017. It is the only synchrotron facility in the Middle East, and the first in the world to be powered by renewable (solar) energy. Scientific research will be carried out across a number of disciplines, including medicine, physics, biology, archaeology and agriculture. Photographed in Allan, Jordan, in April 2015. | |
