Constance Endicott Hartt (1900-1984), American botanist. Hartt received her PhD from the University of Chicago, before teaching at St Lawrence University, New York, and Connecticut College. In 1930 she moved to Hawaii to work as a botanist for the Hawaiian Sugar Planters Association. She researched the biochemistry of sucrose synthesis in sugarcane leaves, contributing to the discovery of the C4 pathway of carbon fixation in sugarcane, and discovering the involvement of malic acid in the production of sucrose. | |
