Copper (II) oxide (CuO) on a watch glass, with a container labelled with hazard warning labels. Under the new UN Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals [GHS] this chemical has two hazard labels GHS09 & GHS07. As well as the symbol there is a signal word and suppliers provide numbered statements [H302 H410] that give more information. The labels warn that this chemical is very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects and is harmful if swallowed. It is used in chemical industry manufacturing, and is also used as a pigment and an abrasive. | |
