Marion Winifred Sheahan (1892-1994), US nurse. Sheahan pioneered public health nursing, mobilizing efforts during World War II, on the home front and front lines. She had worked in New York settlements and as a family health counsellor and director of public health nursing in New York. She served as president of the National Organization for Public Health Nursing (1944 to 1946), and was instrumental in changing the licensing requirements for public health nurses. She later became Executive Director of the National Committee for the Improvement of Nursing Services. She was honoured with a 1949 Lasker Award from the American Public Health Association. | |
