Barbourofelis fricki. Illustration and artwork of the ancient North American sabre-toothed predator Barbourofelis baring its teeth threateningly and preparing to charge. This is the largest known species of Barbourofelis. It was similar in size to a modern lion, but was heavier due to its unusually muscular physique, with the largest individuals thought to weigh up to 300 kilograms. The skull of Barburofelis was shortened to a greater degree than in Smilodon sabre-toothed cats. | |
