Blood sample analysis. Blood samples being analysed in a medical laboratory. The containers are colour-coded for the test being carried out and the chemicals in the tube. From left the tubes are: citrate (green), EDTA (pink) and serum (orange). Blood is analysed for levels of components such as cholesterol and glucose, for pathogens such as bacteria and viruses, and to determine a person's blood group. EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) is used to prevent blood samples coagulating. | |
