Folded rock strata. These folds are formed as the rock is deformed by immense pressures generated from within the Earth's crust as it moves over the mantle beneath. The layers indicate strata laid down to form sedimentary rocks. Later erosion has revealed the rock layers. Photographed in Patagonia, a region of southern South America. | |
