Medinilla magnifica is a plant species of the genus Medinilla, family Melastomataceae. It is native to the Philippines, and popularly referred to as a Philippine orchid, though not an orchid proper. It is an epiphyte, being a plant that grows on other trees, but not drawing food from it. It can grow to a height of 2, 5 metres and has elongate leathery leaves. The heavy, pink to red flowers hang downwards and can measure up to 30 cm long. It is a popular house plant that can also be kept in colder climate if not exposed to low winter temperatures. | |
