The chemical formula for hydrogen peroxide is H2O2 while water is H2O. Over time hydrogen peroxide will naturally decompose to water, releasing the oxygen as a gas. To accelerate this process a catalyst such as manganese peroxide can be added which provides a greater surface area for the decomposition to take place. The manganese is unaffected by the process. | |
