Heat and C02 promote plant growth

| Historically plant growers have improved plant growth in glass houses and recently some have added extra carbon dioxide. Plants use the gas combined with water and sunlight to sequest the carbon atoms into glucose, for growth, while respiring excess oxygen atoms - photosynthesis. Redditch has several highways with regular high rates of traffic. Vehicles increase the temperature with engine heat and tyre friction. Solar energy can increase road temperatures to twice that of the air and some of this heat is radiated into the local environment. The first trees to flower in spring, blackthorn - Prunus spinosa -, line these highways and bloom about two weeks ahead of similar trees in fields half a kilometer away. The microclimate created by the road and motor traffic plus air enriched with C02 have a distinct affect on the local environment observed over a number of years. Redditch, UK. | |
