Exoplanet Gliese 667 Cb, illustration. The Gliese 667 A/B binary star system is in the background at upper left. Gliese 667 Cb is an exoplanet that is six times the mass of the Earth. It orbits its low-mass host star (not seen) at a distance around 1/20th of the Earth-Sun distance. This planet was among more than 30 discoveries announced in 2009 by the group using the High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) spectrograph. The Gliese 667 system is around 24 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Scorpius. Image published in 2009. | |
