Intensively folded Palaeozoic limestone in a cliff near Midterhuken, Bellsund, Spitsbergen, Svalbard. Thousands of seabirds, mostly guillemots, are nesting on ledges in the limestone strata. The vegetation is unusually rich in Svalbard terms as the dung from the birds fertilizes the soil. | |
