Ellisella gorgonian or sea fan, also known as whip coral, on a coral reef wall. The Elisella gorgonian is red, with other similar organisms and corals also seen on the reef wall, along with numerous reef fish. Each gorgonian polyp (too small to be seen here) feeds using tentacles which filter out plankton and particulate matter from the surrounding water. Photographed off the coast of Egypt, in the Red Sea. | |
