Cerrusite, also known as white lead ore, is a mineral consisting of lead carbonate (PbCO3) and an important ore of lead. Cerussite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and is isomorphous with aragonite. Like aragonite it is frequently twinned, the compound crystals being pseudo-hexagonal in form. The mineral also occurs in acicular crystals as in this specimen. It is usually colourless or white, sometimes grey or greenish in tint and varies from transparent to translucent with an adamantine lustre. Actual width is130 mm. | |
