Annie Oakley, (1860-1926), American sharpshooter. Born Phoebe Ann Mosey to a poor Ohio family, Annie Oakley was an extraordinarily talented markswoman from an early age, and hunted to supplement her family's income. She used her astonishing marksmanship to win a shooting competition at a travelling show, and rose to become the first female superstar in what had been a male-dominated profession. | |
