Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Baking flour (all purpose) containing starch grains. All purpose baking flour contains wheat and barley flour (ground wheat and barley seeds). Starch is a polysaccharide that has two basic components amylose and amylopectin. Amylose is an unbranched chain of glucose molecules which is coiled in the shape of a helix. Starch is made by plants to store energy and is used when needed by the plant (e.g., when a seed germinates). Magnification: x100 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres. | |
