Hummocky moraine at the Coire of the Hundred Hills in Glen Torridon, Wester Ross, Scotland. The hillocks are hummocks of debris deposited by a glacier about 10, 000 years ago. They were formed during a time when the ice was melting, & consist of a mixture of unsorted material ranging in size from clay to quite large boulders. They form one of the best-known examples of hummocky moraine in Scotland. They contrast sharply with the slopes of the mountains beyond, which were scraped clean as the glacier moved over them. In the foreground is the Lochan an Iasgair. June 1987. Fuji 100. 127mm. 60th, f/5.6-8, Pol. | |
