Fluorescence light micrograph showing ultra-stable RNA (ribonucleic acid) nanoparticles (red) that can carry therapeutic RNAs and receptor targeting RNA aptamers to cancer cells. The other colours highlight the cellular cytoskeleton (green) and cell nuclei (blue). The nanoparticles don't accumulate in healthy tissue or normal organs. This work was carried out by researchers at the Cancer Nanotechnology Platform Partnership Program at the University of Kentucky, USA. Image produced in 2014.
