Flame test for lithium. A clean wire is dipped into a solution of metal salt. The flame is crimson which indicates that this is lithium salt. Metal ion salts burn with different colours which help to identify them but very clean working is essential to get an accurate colour. Several common ones are red and require viewing through a coloured glass to distinguish them. | |
