Chloramphenicol. Molecular model of the antibiotic drug chloramphenicol (C11.H12.Cl2.N2.O5). This is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of diseases caused by bacteria. Because of this, and because it is cheap and easy to manufacture, this antibiotic is widely used in the developing world. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (white), nitrogen (blue), oxygen (red) and chlorine (green). Illustration. | |
