Shoulder joint degeneration. Coloured X-ray of a shoulder joint that has degenerated (red areas). This could be due to a condition such as arthritis. The ball-shaped head of the humerus (upper arm bone) forms this joint, fitting into the socket of the scapula, with another part of the scapula (the acromion) and part of the clavicle (collar bone) at upper centre. Osteoarthritis is a joint disease aggravated by mechanical stress. Symptoms include joint pain, stiffness and swelling. Physical signs include erosion of cartilage, formation of bony spurs, and a thickened joint capsule. | |
