Comet PANSTARRS and wambling meteor. Optical image of Comet PANSTARRS (C/2014 Q1, bright, lower centre-left)) and a wambling zig-zag meteor (diagonal, left). Further images of zig-zagging meteors, taken at different times across three different continents, suggest that the apparent zig-zag path of these meteors is not simply an artefact of the imaging technique, such as camera shake, but is due to the actual path of the meteor as it spins/spirals through the atmosphere. | |
